About Sinuosity

An AI research lab built around the realities of the physical world.

Sinuosity develops models and systems for environments where intelligence must be grounded in observation, constrained by physical reality and measured through real outcomes.

Our work combines machine learning, robotics, field science, edge computing, speech technology and rigorous evaluation.

Mission

Useful outside controlled environments.

Our mission is to develop intelligent systems that remain useful where observations are incomplete, conditions change, connectivity is limited and actions have real consequences.

We begin in agriculture because it provides one of the most scientifically demanding and socially consequential environments in which to develop physical intelligence.

Research thesis

Digital reasoning is not physical-world reliability.

Physical environments are dynamic, partially observable, spatial, hardware-constrained and unforgiving of unreliable decisions. Sinuosity studies the models, data systems, learning methods, evaluation frameworks and safety architectures required for AI to move from digital reasoning to dependable physical operation.

Research principles

How we intend to work.

01

Field-grounded

Systems must be tested where they are intended to operate.

02

Evidence before confidence

Models should distinguish observation, inference and confirmed ground truth.

03

Efficient by design

Intelligence should remain useful on constrained hardware and limited networks.

04

Safety through layers

No single model should be the only protection against physical failure.

05

Open where useful

Research should be shared when doing so advances the field responsibly.

06

Outcomes matter

The value of an observation is determined partly by what happens afterward.

07

Human expertise remains central

Models should extend the capabilities of farmers, scientists and operators, not erase their role.

Field methodology and roots

Africa as a site of scientific agency.

High-variation agricultural environments in Ghana and across West Africa are scientifically important field environments. They bring together biological variation, constrained infrastructure, diverse language practices, changing weather and operational realities that controlled laboratories often remove.

Sinuosity is globally oriented, with international scientific ambitions. Our work is shaped by the principle that African researchers, operators and field partners are active contributors to new methods—not passive recipients of technology.

Open research philosophy

Open where useful.

Share research when it advances the field responsibly, withhold material when privacy, rights, safety or evaluation integrity require restraint.

Open research

Safety philosophy

Safety through layers.

No single learned model should be the only protection against physical failure. Model, control, hardware, human and operational layers matter.
